Spin in Public

This year I organised a Spin in Public event at Ratina Shopping Centre in Tampere. The idea of Spin in Public day is to bring spinning out into public and show people how wool is turned into yarn using a spinning wheel or a spindle.

I counted that there was about 26 spinner togheter in shopping center Ratina. Based on facial expressions I think there was many people who had never seen anybody making yarn with spinning wheel. Some people stopped to watch, some wanted to try spinning themselves, and others shared their own memories of spinning. It was lovely to meet people, talk about spinning and share this traditional craft. Also I felt little anarchist, doing something so old and so slow in the middle of the shopping hysteria..!
